By Hameed Oyegbade, Osogbo |

The former lecturer at the Department of Accounting, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Professor Richard Iyiola Akindele who was facing trial for demanding for sex from his student, Miss Monica Osagie, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun state.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission; (ICPC) had arraigned the lecturer and secured his conviction at the court after he was sack by the university.

Akindele, who was remanded in prison after his first arraignment in court on Monday changed his plea and admitted that he was guilty of the allegation as charged by the commission.

However, the prosecutor, Shogunle Adenekan told the court that all parties in the matter have agreed and reach plea bargain and pleaded for a suspended sentence for the accused.

In his ruling, Justice Maurine Onyetenu sentenced the lecturer to six years imprisonment for the four-count charges levelled against him.

The judge pronounced 2 years each for two out of the four counts and one year jail term for each of the remaining two charges levelled against the lecturer.

The judge said the punishment would serve as deterrent to other lecturers who are in the habit of demanding for sex from students.

Akindele would spend two years in prison as his jail term of six years would run concurrently, Daily Trust learnt.

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Ogun State have arrested two Christian clerics for allegedly killing a woman for ritual purposes.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who disclosed this to journalists yesterday, gave the names of the suspects as Olusola Akindele (42) and Ayodele Bamiduro.

Akindele is a self-acclaimed prophet and bricklayer while Bamiduro is the pastor in charge of the Lion of Judah Church of Christ, located on Robiyan Avenue, in Agbado area of the state.
They allegedly conspired to kill Akindele’s girlfriend, identified simply as Iya Aanu.

Iliyasu, who was on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene at Agbado yesterday, said the suspects severed the head and arms of the victim before burying them behind a makeshift bathroom at the back of Bamiduro’s church.

The police commissioner stated that the stomp of the body was dumped inside an uncompleted building behind Akindele’s house.

According to him, the Baale of Igbore Robiyan town lodged a complaint at the police division in Agbado on August 10 that a headless decomposing body of a woman was discovered in an uncompleted building in the community.

Upon receipt of the complaint, Iliyasu said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Agbado, Olatunji Omonijo, was ordered to unravel the mystery behind the incident.

The commissioner pointed out that through technical intelligence-based investigation, the suspects were eventually arrested.

He said: “On interrogation, Olusola Akindele, who claimed to be a prophet in a church, confessed that the victim was his woman friend, who he identified simply as Iya Aanu. He stated further that they have been dating two years.

“On that fateful day, the deceased came to visit him as usual and after they made love, he surreptitiously brought out a cudgel and smashed her head.

“He later cut her head and arms, after which he dumped the remains into the uncompleted building behind his residence. The severed head and two arms of the victims were buried at the back of Lion of Judah Church of Christ at number 13, Robiyan Avenue, belonging to Ayodele Bamiduro.”

Speaking with journalists, Akindele confirmed that the victim was his lover and confessed to the murder.

The suspect also said he carried out the dastardly act after sleeping with the victim.

Akindele, who was mumbling during the interview, however, could not give any reason for killing and dismembering the woman.

In his own confession, Bamiduro said he knew Akindele in the locality and used to assist him financially.

Although he confessed that Akindele brought Iya Aanu’s head and arms to him, Bamiduro denied sending him to kill the victim.
The police commissioner told our correspondent that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

My father impregnated me, he started having sex with me when I was 12

My dad started having sex with me at 12, I later got pregnant

•SAYS 21-YR-OLD LADY
Oluwatoyin Malik

A 47-year-old man, Julius Ochim, who allegedly fathered his granddaughter by impregnating his daughter, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that Ochim, said to be a commercial motorcyclist, was arrested when his daughter reported at Shagamu Police Division that her father had been having carnal knowledge of her since 2009, shortly after her mother’s death.

The 21-year-old lady said that her father’s s3xual relationship with her resulted in pregnancy three years ago, and the birth of a girl.

The lady said that though her father stopped for some time, he started pestering her for s3x again about three weeks ago, which led to a quarrel because of her refusal to yield to his advances.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Shagamu Division, CSP Aduroja Moses, led the detectives to the residence of the man where he was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it all on the devil’s handwork. He confessed that he started having problem with the girl when she started going out with another person,” the PPRO stated.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the suspect, who disclosed that he was from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, said: “It is true that I had s3x with my daughter, but that was in 2015. I had it with her only twice, and she got pregnant.

“I sent her to my brother in my village and we both agreed that she should tell the people at home that she was impregnated by a fellow student.

“I have four female children. My wife was also from my state before she died in 2009.”

Ochim however denied making an attempt to sleep with his daughter again, saying that he was only trying to stop her from dating one of the Yahoo Boys.

“She was always on phone and I noticed her following some guys who were into internet fraud. I tried to stop her by destroying the phone but she went to report me to our landlord,” he said.

The suspect admitted committing incest, but said: “I don’t even understand myself. It is the work of the devil.”

The lady, who also spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said: “My father started having s3xual relationship with me when I was 12 years old. That was when we returned from our village after my mother’s burial.

“What happened was that a young guy was caught trying to rape me, and my father’s pastor told him to teach me s3x education. But he turned it to another rthing, and since I was a young girl, I didn’t understand what he was doing.

“By the time I was about to finish from SSS3 class, I got pregnant for him.

“I went to my uncle in the village to deliver the baby and following the agreement I had with my father, I told my uncle that the student who impregnated me had gone out of the country.

“After delivery, I thought about all that happened and was disturbed. On my return three months after delivery, I told my father to stop what he was doing to me, and he stopped.

“But about three weeks ago, he made the moves to continue and I did not agree to it. I went to report him to our landlord. He got angry and smashed my phone on the floor.

“He is evading saying the truth if he said he was not the one who deflowered me. He started when we returned from our village after the burial of my mother.

“He is also being economical with the truth when he said I was dating a Yahoo guy. He never allowed any man around me.

“My father would not allow me to work, so I had to depend totally on him. But now that he is away, I can start looking for a job to do. I don’t want a case; I just wanted him to stop pestering me for s3x.”

The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Posted By: Justina Asishana, Minna

A 55 year old grandmother, Aisha Ibrahim has been arrested by the Niger state Police Command for killing her two year granddaughter by throwing her into a well.

According to the suspect, she tied the granddaughter with a rope and threw her into the well in their compound at Karaya Fulani Camp in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state.

Aisha said that she carried out the action because she has been looking for a way to deal with her daughter-in-law adding that it was a payback for the insults and assaults she had received from her daughter-in-law.

The grandmother saw an opportunity to carry out her act when her son, Bello Ibrahim and his wife left their child in her custody to attend a naming ceremony in their neighboring village

“I told my husband to tell his son to divorce his wife but he did not listen to me. My daughter-in-law is fond of insulting and assaulting me all the time and the only way I could pay her back was to tie her daughter with the rope and throw her inside well to die so that she will equally feel the pains and agony I have been through.

“We have been living in peace as one big family before my son married her, I have 12 children and all of us are living in one compound, she cannot come from nowhere to destroy the family I have suffered for years to keep, it is unacceptable,” she explained.

The suspect who was trailed and arrested by the police detectives attached to Kagara Division while she was trying to escape said she regretted her action as she should not have yielded to the temptation.

“It was temptation. I did not know when I did it, I cannot just tell but may Allah forgive me, honestly it was a wicked act that can never be accepted anywhere in the world”, she confessed.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Muhammad Abubakar said during confession to the crime, the suspect regretted her action adding it was already too late as the deed had already been done and she would be arraigned in court after investigation .

I fake my own kidnap to collect money from my dad, daughter confesses

Daughter fakes own kidnap, collects ransom from father

Deji Lambo

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Dorcas Adilewa for allegedly faking her kidnap to defraud her father, Taiwo Adilewa.

The police also arrested Dorcas’ friend, Ifeoluwa Ogunbanjo, for her alleged involvement in the fraud.

Nineteen-year-old Dorcas was said to have conspired with Ogunbanjo to execute the scheme and allegedly demanded N600,000 ransom.

The police said Taiwo had received a call from someone who told him that his daughter had been kidnapped and allegedly demanded the N600,000 for her release.

Taiwo reportedly informed the police about the kidnap of his daughter.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, during a press briefing on Monday, said he ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command to investigate the case.

He said, “The kidnapper told the father that if he did not want his daughter killed, he should pay a ransom of N600,000 to secure her release.

“Investigation into the case immediately commenced and the phone number that was used by the callers was geo-located to the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State. The head of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led his men to Ijebu Igbo at about 10pm the same day and combed the area in search of the supposed victim till the following morning.”

Imohimi said while the search was still ongoing, the alleged fraudsters relocated to Lagos where Dorcas called her father.

The CP explained that after she observed that operatives were very close to getting the kidnappers, and in a bid to evade arrest, Dorcas called her father that she had been released.

Imohimi said, “The supposed kidnappers relocated to Ikotun in Lagos and the search party also moved to Ikotun to rescue the victim.

“When the fake kidnappers realised that the police were closing in on them, the supposed victim called the complainant to inform him that she has been released after she gave them the N8,000 the father sent to her bank account.”

The CP said Dorcas later confessed to have masterminded the kidnap, adding that she planned the kidnap with her friend, Ogunbanjo, who allegedly provided the hideout.

He said, “Dorcas confessed that she planned the kidnap with her friend, Ifeoluwa Ogunbanjo, who provided her with accommodation on Adeboye Road, Okesopin, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, as well as the mobile phone they used to demand the ransom. Her reason was that she wanted to extort money from her father.”

However, Dorcas said she needed the money to pay her school fee.

She said, “When the payment of my school fee was delayed, I went to my friend’s (Ogunbanjo) place, where I called my father.

“I was at her place on Thursday and I went back home on Friday when my dad said he could not afford the money.”

But Ogunbanjo said she was not aware of the kidnap plan, adding that she accommodated Dorcas at her parents’ house because Dorcas told her she had escaped from kidnappers.

She also said she gave Dorcas her phone to call her father because she said she needed transport fare to go home.

Ogunbanjo said, “It was because she used my phone to call that the police came to Ijebu. What she told me was that she entered kidnappers bus and that when she escaped, she came to Ijebu Ode.

“When she came, my mum entertained her and the next day, my mum gave her N500. She needed additional N500 to complete the N1,000 she needed to transport herself home. So she said she wanted to use my phone to call her daddy so she can tell him to send her some money to transport herself. So I gave her, not knowing that she was using it to demand money from her daddy.

“She asked for my bank account number and I said I did not have. So, I went to meet someone beside my mummy’s shop to collect an account number. It is God that saved me that she did not use that person’s account number. I never knew that her daddy had sent N8,000 into her account and she did not tell me anything.”

The CP said investigation was in progress and on completion, suspects would be charged to court.

The suspect, from Abeokuta, Ogun State, who is a member of Eiye Confraternity, said her role was to keep arms for the cult group’s members whenever they are going for an operation.

According to her, Sadiq was a leader of Eiye Confraternity in llasamaja area who trained her on how to use guns to kill people.

She further revealed that they normally disguised themselves while going for operations, with women wearing hijabs and men dressing in ‘jalabias’ form to avoid suspicion.

She added that she was paid N10,000 while the men got N20,000 each after every operation.

Corruption: 400 public servants under investigation over ownership of suspicious property in Abuja ―Panel

400 public servants under investigation over ownership of suspicious property in Abuja ―Panel

Clement Idoko – Abuja

A Presidential Panel has revealed that over 400 names of past and present public servants linked to ownership of suspicious property in Maitama district of the Federal Capital Territory are under investigation.

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecutions and Head of Special Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, made this known in Abuja at the official launch of Properti Tracka platform, an initiative of the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ).

He said the fight against corruption by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was total and that public officers have to be engaged on how they acquire their wealth.

He insisted that there was nothing unconstitutional about the Executive Order 6 recently signed by the President, saying anybody who has not stolen money to acquire assets should not be jittery by the executive order.

He said the Panel is also investigating public office holders who have assets outside the country, saying United Kingdom has been very cooperative in this regard.

Obono-Obla, added that the new law activated in UK, “Unexplained Wealth Order” has strengthened the effort of the Panel to recover stolen assets in the country in cash and landed property.
“Thank God there is a law in UK that has strengthen our hands. The law is known as unexplained wealth order. That law says if you have property that is above 50 thousand pounds, you have to explain where you made the money to acquire that property.

“We have Nigerians who have properties in London, landed property, worth 20 million pounds. One of them I am investigating was a Group General Manager of NNPC who has a piece of property in London worth over 800 thousand pounds,” he said.

He commended the Executive Director of ANEEJ, Reverend David Ugolor, for partnering with the Federal government in tackling corruption through improving transparency in property ownership.

Obono-Obla, said: “Fighting corruption should not be responsibility of President Muhammadu Buhari alone. It should be the responsibility of everyone of us. National Assembly, the civil society, because this country has suffered tremendously because of corruption.

“I have already 400 names of some past and present public office holders who have property in Maitama district alone in my data that we are investigating and I will make them available to you.

“All of us have the duty to ask some Nigerians mostly present and past public office holders, some of them with massive estates, let them come and tell us how they make the money.

“For instance, if I earn less than N7 million a year, and at the end of my tenure I have property that is more than N200 million or one billion naira, you must find out how I make my money. It cannot be from my legitimate earnings.

“Most of these people who have properties in Maitama and Asokoro are public servants, earning less than N2 million a year. Where do they get the money? If they cannot explained where they made the money from, it means that is a proceed of corruption.

“That is the question we have not been asking. We have to engage our public officers. They must tell us where they make their money from to build massive estates all over Abuja.

“The money they would have used to invest in our schools, social infrastructure and so on are siphoned to build massive estates nobody is living all over Abuja,” he said.

He recalled how a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo, Abuja, recently ordered temporary forfeiture of 86 luxury vehicles, together with four houses and a quarry plant in Abuja, belonging to a civil servant.

The luxury vehicles were allegedly seized from the Director of Finance and Account in the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

He noted that all the 86 exotic vehicles were brand new and that 23 of them were armoured plated, adding that there was no evidence that the National Security Adviser authorized him to import the vehicles.

He said: “We first wrote to the Accountant General of the Federation to give us how much this director has earned from 2007 and 2017 and they gave us the figure that the man has earned about N30 million.

“But this man has 86 vehicles. I am not talking about toy vehicles, we are talking about exotic vehicles and 23 of them were armoured plated X Class Mercedes 200. One of those vehicles is going for about N250 million and we had Jaguar and so on.

“The vehicles where warehoused in Jabbi and we went there we saw the vehicles, brand new vehicles. There was no evidence of payment of import duties, there was no evidence that he was given authority by the National Security Adviser to bring them into the country.

“So, if he had earned N30 million in those years, where did he get the money to buy those vehicles. It means the money must have come from the treasury of Nigeria.

“There was evidence that he had other properties in Nigeria and abroad. All these assets have been seized from him. That is the only way we can stop public officers from stealing; when you take over their assets and that is why some people are very uncomfortable with the Executive Order issued by Mr President.

“I am happy that you are working towards that line, in order to track down these properties illegally acquired,” he said.

He said there is chronic and scandalous poverty in the country because of corruption, saying those entrusted with the responsibility of running the country were selfish and self-centred.

Obono-Obla, said the country has tremendous resources that could take care of everybody but said most public officers were not interested in the general welfare of the people.

How Alfa used fake vision to rape student in Lagos – Police

Alfa used fake vision to rape student in Lagos – Police

Deji Lambo

An Alfa, Mustapha Hammed, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a 29-year-old student of Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.

The police said the 23-year-old suspect told the victim that he saw a vision that she would die in 24 hours, unless the student took three spiritual baths.

It was gathered that after the victim received the message, Hammed allegedly took the girl to Itowolo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State for cleansing to avert the death.

While addressing the press during a parade at the state police command on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said the victim never knew Hammed had a clandestine plan, as he sexually assaulted her.

He also said since Hammed allegedly raped the victim, she had remained traumatised.

Imohimi said, “The Alfa deceived the victim that he saw in a vision that she was going to die within 24 hours. He took the girl to Ikorodu, Lagos, for cleansing so that she will not die.

“At Ikorodu, he raped the girl, who was a virgin.

“He thereafter wiped of her blood with a white handkerchief and since then, according to the victim’s father, the girl has been behaving abnormally because she was completely devastated and traumatised by the incident.”

Hammed confessed that he deflowered the girl when he took her to Itowolo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State to spiritually cleanse her.

The Oyo State indigene said, “On April 7, 2018, I called the girl to come and meet me at my house. The girl is a friend to my girlfriend. When she came, I told her that I saw a vision that she has spiritual husband while I was praying and told her she needed to bath three times to solve the spiritual problem.

“The girl agreed to follow me to my house in Ikorodu. When we got there, she bathed the first time, but before she had the second bath, I had put a frog inside the water. I threw the frog inside the water because I want to marry her but do not know how to tell her.

“When she saw the frog, she ran out of the bathroom. I told her that it was a bad sign and she asked what to do. I then told her to call her boyfriend to meet her at my place. She told me that she could not call anybody and asked me to help her to do everything. She said she was still a virgin and told me to deflower her, so I did. But it was on that day that I realised that she was a virgin.

Hammond also said the girl was fine when they got back from Ikorodu, adding that he was not responsible for her abnormal behaviours.

He said, “When we came back to Bariga from Ikorodu, I saw her about two weeks ago and she was fine. I was arrested on Thursday, July 12, and they said I raped the girl and used her to do something; I did not use her to do anything.”

The CP said the case had been transferred to the Gender Section Unit for further investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
