New Lagos Commissioner of Police,  Edgar takes over as Owoseni bows out

Breaking: CP Lagos Owoseni bows out, Edgal in

Outgoing Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni

By Okolie Ifeanyi

The confusion which greeted the recent redeployment of Fatai Owoseni out of Lagos State as Commissioner of Police, seems to have been settled, as Owoseni has handed over to his successor, Imohimi Edgal.

This came as the new Lagos CP, assured residents of round the clock security, stating that command would go all out to fight crime and criminality and ensure the safety of lives and properties.

Edgar, also ordered Divisional Police Officers within state, during a briefing at the Police Officers Mess Ikeja, to report at their various divisions and provide adequate security for residents of the state during the Eid-Mubarak celebration. ‎

During the handing over ceremony which was witnessed by some senior principal officers of the Command, it was stated that at no point in time did the former CP Lagos state refuse to obey the lawful directives of the Inspector General of Police IGP Ibrahim K Idris by handing over to his successor.

The Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole disclosed further that CP Fatai Owoseni wishes the officers and men of the command all the best under the leadership of the Commissioner of police Lagos state.

The official brief from the outgoing CP Fatai Owoseni to officers was to devote the same official capacity they once had with him to the efforts of the new CP to continue to make Lagos state peaceful and crime free.

The Ag/COMPOL Edgar Imohimi had a quick security brief with the officers for the public holiday and warned officers to make sure the sallah break is hitch free with robust police visibility.”

“He also told Area commanders and DPO’s to confine their officers and men to the barrack for effective policing during the festive period. ”

Petrol prices to fall, says Kachikwu

Petrol prices to fall, says Kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu on Thursday said that owing to the competition inherent in the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) price modulation, the product’s prices will crash  in the next four to six months.
He urged Nigerians not to undermine the present prices of the product, stressing that a look at the prices of the diesel which are now 40% down and recording surplus supply is enough evidence that the petrol prices will also crash.
Presenting his scorecard on his two years in office in a podcast released to reporters in Abuja he said that “once Nigerians throw their trading skill in, once competition thrives, the prices will continue to tumble.
” My guess is that you will see the prices tumble in the next four, five to six months. The market will be more stable and definitely the prices will be lower than what we see today.”
Still capturing hope in the petroleum downstream sector, he said that in the last 10 years, this is the first time that the three refineries are working simultaneously, although at 50 % of their capacity.
“We expect to put in investment to put them to 90% capacity,” he said.
Kachikwu said that this is the first that the NNPC group of companies are recording savings which could be used to address the issue of the refineries alongside the Joint Venture Partners.
The minister noted that this is the first time the government is upgrading the depots to extent that of the 19 only three are not functioning at the moment.
He said this is the first time that a government is considering the replacement of the 35 year old pipelines.
It has been one massive problem after the other in order for the sector to stabilize in term of product supply in the country.
Kachikwu however submitted that but “the time has come to take on the problem bullishly and that is what we are trying to do. So, we believe the ire will be money for infrastructural development in the downstream sector.
“We believe that a lot of the companies will jump up now and be able to sell at the right prices and not the pump down by the problem of price control and will be able to grow their businesses. We believe that most of them efficient ones will drive prices southward  rather than northward.
“And we believe that almost 200,000 jobs will be created in this sector and over 400,000 jobs will be saved which would have been lost if we had continued on the path we were in.”
He revealed that on assumption of office two years ago, he inherited a debt of N600billion owed to marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which the  federal government settled.
He recalled that they seized importing the products prior to the payment of their debt.

Buhari calls for unity in Eid El Kabir address

Nigeria will make rapid progress – Buhari in Eid-El-Kabir message

President Muhammadu Buhari

 By David Lawal

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday reassured Nigerians that the country can make rapid progress on all fronts.

The President gave this message in his Eid-El-Kabir message to Nigerians from his home in Daura, Katsina state.

In the Sallah message, President Buhari thanked Nigerians who prayed for his recovery and have continued to extend their goodwill and support after his return to the country.

The message reads: “Fellow Compatriots, I felicitate with you all, particularly the Muslim faithful, on the celebration of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.

“I congratulate our Muslim brothers and sisters who are currently in Saudi Arabia to participate in the rites of the Hajj.

“From the outset, I want to use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians who prayed for my recovery and have continued to extend their goodwill and support after my return to the country.

“Indeed your fervent and sincere prayers, which cut across religion, political and ethnic divides, has energised me to re-dedicate myself and this administration to the task of building a great Nigeria.

“On the joyous occasion of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir celebration, I appeal to all Nigerians to rise against the odds, keep our prejudices aside and strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity to keep our country together.

“For Muslims all over the world, this celebration is to commemorate the trials and triumph of Prophet (Abraham) Ibrahim.

“As we celebrate, I sincerely believe that our nation can make rapid progress on all fronts if we re-enact the exemplary virtues, typified by Prophet (Abraham) Ibrahim, through his sacrifice, patience, steadfastness, generosity and obedience to Allah’s command and constituted authority.

“We must learn to see ourselves as brothers and sisters from the same heritage, who must come to terms with the African proverb that ‘a family tie is like a tree, it can bend but it cannot break’.

“Once again, I assure you that this administration, which has made the security, economic well-being and prosperity of all Nigerians its priority, will not rest on its oars until we see the Nigeria of our dream.
I wish everyone happy Sallah celebrations.”

Confusion over Lagos police commissioner as two persons lay claim

Confusion as two police commissioners emerge in Lagos

Sesan Olufowobi
The Lagos Police Command was thrown into confusion on Wednesday as two Commissioners of Police emerged in the command.

Earlier in the day, it was gathered that Edgar Imohimi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, had been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police to replace Fatai Owoseni, who had been in the position for two years.

It was gathered that Owoseni would assume the post of Commissioner of Police in Charge of Administration at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

But Owoseni, later in the day, said he was not aware of the appointment of a new police commissioner for the state.

Owoseni told the News Agency of Nigeriathat he had yet to receive any directive on any posting or the fact that there was a new commissioner in the state.

“When we get the information, we will let you know,” Owoseni said.
NAN also reported that  Owoseni, on Wednesday, spoke at a conference on security at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, in his capacity as Lagos State police commissioner.

Neither the Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh, nor the state command spokeman, Olarinde Famous-Cole, picked their calls.

Olori Wuraola finally confirms crash of her marriage to Ooni

Olori Wuraola finally confirms crash of her marriage to Ooni

The Ooni and the former Olori

The Olori (Queen)of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Olori Wuraola, has finally confirmed the breakup of her seventeen-marriage to the monarch.

Writing on her Instagram page, she said What I can confirm is that the Ooni and I are no more.  I inhale love and exhale gratitude.

She however denied speculation linking the breakdown of the marriage to infidelity on her part.

There is absolutely no truth to the media circulated lies of infidelity and infertility- on my end, she added.

She however blamed the media for being used to tarnish her image.

” We have to stop this culture of shaming and vilifying women with false stories of infidelity and nefarious behaviour.  The spreading of false information (through sources afraid to be identified) is the mark of cowards and a cover up for guilty parties to justify their horrific actions, she added.

Social and traditional media were awash with rumour of breakup of the high profile marriage, allegedly on ground of adultery on the part of the Queen.

This was denied by official palace sources.

However, the post on her Instagram page has finally put a seal on the marriage.

 Below is her full statement
We have to stop this culture  of shaming and vilifying women with false stories of infidelity and nefarious behaviour.  The spreading of false information ( through sources afraid to be identified ) is the mark of cowards and a cover up for guilty parties to justify their horrific actions.  There is absolutely no truth to the media circulated lies of infidelity and infertility- on my end.

What I can confirm is that the Ooni and I are no more.  I inhale love and exhale gratitude.  My journey continues as a humanitarian aiding women and victims of domestic abuse and abuse with the United Nations. No matter how much time you have invested , no matter the use of media to silence and manipulate, no matter the circumstance, slander, embarrassment threats and lies: Get out and seek immediate help.

Weve seen this movie before.  Women being dragged in the press and blamed for everything under the sun.  This behaviour is unacceptable.  I urge those involved to be mindful of their actions for the eyes of our Almighty God are watching. The seeds of slander is a cancer that harvests to eat away the souls of the planter.

The throne is sacred and the attempts to tarnish the name of a Queen, in defence or on behalf of a King makes all involved look terrible. Remain dignified in all you do.  Its not the end of the world, but the start of a new chapter and you must turn the page with grace. The world is watching.

As I bid adieu to this chapter, my wish to you all is to step into your lives  boldly and fearlessly the way God intended and not just by words, but through example.  The best chapter in our lives is the one we are writing now. Thank you for your love and support.
